The imluctioii of the Rev. B. Gladstone Hughes, 8.A., Auckland, as minister ot’ St. John’s Church, Wellington, will be held on Thursday evening. The welcoming social will take place on the following M'ednesday. Tlie Rev. Air. Hughes, who is a Welshman by birth, graduated with honours at tlie University College of North Wales. Bangor, in'l9o6, mid next year was Dean Edward’s prizeman. ' His post graduate studentship was spent at. Cambridge University, under Professor James Ward and Dr. McTag’gart. From 1908 till .1915 lie was assistant: master at Chesterfield ami .Sleaford Grammar Schools and in North AVales. in Hie latter year lie was ordained to Hie charge of Beulleeli. Anglesey, Wales, where he remained till ids appointment to Chalmers Church. Tiinai'ii. He was in Tinmru till 1033. lie Hum returned to Hie Old Country to take temporary charge of St. Andrew's Church, Mouksemmi. Newcaslle-on-'l'yne. Im! the following year saw liim accept Hie charge of St. Andrew’s Church, Auckland. where lie lias ministered up till now.
While in Timaru. Air. Hughes was an associate member of the Children’s Court, and during live depression he established the Timaru Boys’ Welfare League. He is a Dominion vicepresident of the Ix'ague of Nations Union, ami has been a lecturer for Hie W.E.A.
