CAPTAIN RAMSAY’S CASE
No Breach Of Privilege
LONDON, November 14.
The detention of Captain Ramsay, Conservative M.P. for Peebles and president of the Right Club, Who was arrested last May under the Defence Regulations, has been investigated by a Committee of Privileges of the House of Commons and their report lias been issued. , This says that the committee is or the opinion that, the detention of Captain Ramsay under Regulation 18b is not a breach of the privilege of the House. The committee concludes that precedents lend no support to the view that members of Parliament, are exempted by privilege from detention under the Defence Regulations of 1939.
In’ bis evidence, Captain Ramsay referring to an allegation made in the House of Lords that be had been appointed gauleiter (Nazi district leader) for Scotland, said: “There is not a shred of truth in that statement.”
