HOME GUARD
Attitude Of Workers
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMEIGSTON N„ November 15.
Despite the assurance of -Mr. Semple that the organization is only for the defence of the country a statement was
made at a meeting of the Home Guard Committee that the Manawalu Trades Council, or a section of it, feared that the organization might, iu some situations be used against the industrial workers of the country.
The discussion arose when it was reported that enrolments were not what was expected, considering the vital necessity of having a defence organization.
Mr" F. Lee. representing the Trades Council, suggested that apathy among workers was due to some suspicion as to the purposes to which the Home Guard might be put. Other members of the committee said they hoped the workers Mr. Lee represented would get behind the movement, as there was no room for politics in the defence of the Dominion.
