PARAMOUNT THEATRE

Now screening at the Paramount Theatre is a revival of the Laurel and Hardy success, “Fra Diavolo,” with Dennis King aud Thelma Todd. The plot concerns the adventures of a bandit, Fra Diavolo, who masquerades as the Marquis de San Marco, and is the envy of both men and women for his elegant person and fastidious tastes. Dennis King takes ■the title role, and sings many numbers magnificently. But it is in the scenes which feature the comic pair that the film really gets under way, and it is a joy io watch again Laurel do hi.s lam ous “Kneesy. Easy, Nosey” routine which sent all wiio beheld it slightly mental. Then there is the scene in the wine cellar where Laurel, consumes too much' liquor aud hursts into peals of laughter. The situations in which the couple find themselves as manservants to the pseudo marquis arc ludicrous and amusing in the extreme, while the. dialogue is guaranteed to send any audience into continual fits of laughter. Thelma Todd is (lie woman in the ease, and there are some precious jewels, to say nothing of a considerable sum of money involved in the story. The fun throughout is fast and furious. . - . A good complement to the first film is “Some Like It Hot,” starring the wellknown comedian Bob Hope, who has as his leading lady Shirley Ross. Bob takes the part of Nicky Neilson, a young man witli a good opinion of himseif and a flair for doing the wrong tiling at the wrong time. Nicky is a vaudeville entertainer, but most of his schemes seem to go awry even after Shirley Ross suggests that they go into partnership and launch a. new act on the public. Gene Krupa and his band play a prominent part in straightening out difficulties and finally bringing the couple to happiness and prosperity.
