MINISTERS’ STIPENDS
Report To Prcsbytei’iun Assembly Dominion Special Serike PALMERSTON N., November 14. A report presented to tlie («oneial Assembly of the Presbyterian Church stated that it was nothing short of i sci'iidal that some ministers and home missionaries should be expected to exist on stipends which were quite insufficient to provide the bare needs ot a singli' man, and yet quite a few' were .married with families. "To say that the remuneralion is not mure than that of the minimum for ordimirv labourers, is putting the ease very mildly.” said the report, "and it. is a matter of wonder that the heroic wives and mothers manage to carty on and maintain an appearance of well being which is expecto’d of cinirch families.
"A committee was set up by tire assembly to report on recommendations, one of which was a family allowance for children up to 17 years- of age.
