DELIVERER OF BIG BOMB ON MUNICH
Flight Lieutenant Coleman. Havelock North Dominion Special Service HASTINGS. November 14. It is now revealed that the Hawke’s Bay Flight Lieutenant who dropped one of the heaviest, calibre bombs so far delivered in raids on Germany and enemy-occupied territory when an attack was made on Munich last Friday was Flight Lieutenant Lloyd Coleman, sou of Mrs. H. M. Coleman, Havelock North, and the late Lieutenant Coleman. who was killed in the Great War. Mrs. Coleman was advised by cable to listen in to the news from London, and. she said, “It was certainly a great thrill.’’ .Flight Lieutenant Coleman congratulated Pilot Officer M. J. Herrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Herrick. Hastings, who was recently awarded the D.F.C. He recalled their days at ’Wanganui Collegiate School together and mentioned some of the daring exploits of Pilot Officer Herrick. He then described how a large bomb was delivered to Munich and paid a tribute to the crew, specially the bomb-aimer. Flight Lieutenant Coleman, who is 22 years of age. was educated at Hereworth School. Havelock North, and Wanganui Collegiate School. He studied law al Cambridge, gaining liis tripos, and after lie had been called to the Bar ho became associated with Sir Oswald Summerville Chambers. ILgained his pilot’s licence as a member of the Auxiliary Flying Corps, established before the war. and was called up for service in lioeember.
