ITALIAN SHELLING

LONDON. November 12.

A Greek communique says: “Wc took prisoner a great number of Italians, including several officers, in the Findus region on Sunday and Monday, and much material of all kinds fell into our hands. ‘‘The enemy bombed several points on our front ineffectually, also some towns and villages. There were some civilian casualties. Our air force bombed port installations and shipping at Valona. The Greek Ministry of Public Security reporting on Italian raids on ten towns, says: •'Three villages in the I’indus Mountains were severely damaged. The morale of the people remains excellent.” it is reported from Monastic that the Italians are shelling the Greek positions on Lake Presba and divebombing against the Greek positions on the Kortiza front. The Greeks claim that they are counter-attacking, using abandoned machine-guns to hasten the retreat ot the Italian force which was trapped in the Pindus Mountains, where the ravines are strewn with abandoned arms, ammunition, and field kitchens. The main Italian offensive against rhe Greek centre was liquidated one week after the date set for the triumphal entry of the Italians into ■Athens. The Italians' drive against Salonika has been tiling back, and only of the division of Alpini out of 12,000 escaped from the Greek trap. A relieving infantry column was also routed. It. is revealed in Athens that the Italians were confident that Greece would not resist, and had arranged for the necessary funds to linance services after Hie occupation. A large partv of officials. accompanied by a Bank of Italy official, left an Albanian outpost on October 28 witli the intention of installing themselves at Janina.
