How Business Men Can Help Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N., November 13. The importance of having a properly trained and armed force ready to resist an invader, was stressed by the president of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce, Mr. K. A. Henderson, at the annual .meeting. “Your chamber.” he stated, “was in favour of conscription and adopted resolutions to this effect, together with other chambers and local bodies throughout New Zealand. These opinions expressed by the business community must have materially assisted in bringing our Government to a sense of its duty to bring in conscription of manpower. Today New Zealand's war effort is substantially improving. M e have ri well-trained division overseas with satisfactory reinforcements already in training in New Zealand. In addition, we are training approximately two divisions of territorials who will he available for the defence of New Zealand or to he sent overseas if their services are urgently required. Companies and battalions of returned soldiers are being formed and trained mid steps are beng taken to form a substantial body as a Home Guard. •‘Business men throughout our Dominion can materially help in the defenceof New Zealand by immediately joining the Home Guard, as well as allowing conscripted territorials at once.to undergo their training by not appealing against any employee being called.”
