A'arious opinions were received front local bodies nt the monthly meeting of the Kairanga County Council in reply to the council’s representations about tiro allocation of heavy traffic fees among local bodies in the No. 9 Highways District. The council had asked that the principle of the inclusion of both btnte nnd main highways in the district pool be affirmed, holding that the length ot State highways nnd main highways in any district should be taken into account iu the distance of metalled roads. The council’s attitude was supported by the Horowlientia and Alnnawatu County Council, and the present method was favoured by the I’ohangina, Kiwitea, ami Orotta County Councils, and the 1’ eliding. Shannon and Levin Borough Councils. The Foxt.on Borough Council wrote suggesting that a conference be held to discuss the subject, and the Otaki Borough Council was not prepared to discuss the question till further information was available. It was decided to write to the Palmerston North City Council stating that the concensus of opinion was that, the allocation should remain as at present. The financial statement showed that of the current year’s rates £2372 had been paid to date. The total levied was £IS,4SI/7/i. To date 12.83 per cent, of the rates levied had been paid, compared with 11.64 per cent, at the corresponding time last year.
