PENSIONER’S GIFT TO PATRIOTIC FUND
Forty-two pounds, the amount remitted yearly to an English war pensioner living in New Zealand, is gratefully acknowledged by the Dominion organizer of the £1,000,000 all purposes patriotic appeal, Mr. J. Abel. The pensioner, who lives in Paeroa, writes: “Possibly money in the Old Country would be more value to you than if subscribed here, and 1 would suggest, that yon might be able to arrange that my war pension could lie held every quarter for a. year for that purpose, arrangements being made through the Pensions Department nt Home. ... I would much rather do tills than put my name on a local list, as I am not fond of publicity. Tile amount is £42 a year.” Commenting on this gesture and commending it to the public, Mr. Abel said: “Here is one person who, though not able to contribute on a large scale, realizes that no ]>ersonal sacrifice is 100 great, for the boys at the front.”
