HOMING PIGEONS
Race From Ashburton The Wellington Horning Pigeon Society held a flock race from Ashburton, 237 miles airline, last, weekend. Seventy-five pigeons, representing 12 members, were liberated by the stationmaster. The birds had a strong head wind to contend with, and the race was very hard. The following were the first eight placing®:— J. Bock's Brilliant Spark. 932.2 yards a minute: F. Couper and Son’s Bob Roy, 931 : T. Baxter and Son's The Sweep. 929; T. Hayes's Red Robe. 92-1 ; Heyward and Hoare's The Rival, SG9; J. Webster's Sly Fox, 807: Murphy and Sherwood's Hurricane. 85-1; R. Tasker's Gipsy Beauty. 809.
