POWER FAILURE

Tram Services Held Up

WELLINGTON SOUTH AREA A power failure in the sub-stations supplying the south area of Wellington caused the Island Bay, Newtown, Lyall Bay, Seatoun and Miramar tram services to be held up between 5.45 and approximately 6.30 p.m. yesterday. Occurring during a busy period, the interruption caused considerable inconvenience. Adelaide Boat! was blocked with ears, and though the power came on at odd intervals, it was insufficient to relieve the congestion and nearly three-quarters of an hour elapsed before the service was iu working order. The interruption was the worst of its kind experienced for some time. The cause had not been determined last night, and a thorough investigation will be made today. The services to the southern area were the only ones affected, and elsewhere the normal schedule was maintained.
