JAIL FOR ASSAULT
Incident At Exhibition A. sentence of 14 days’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed oa Henry Hedley Bryant Maunder, labourer and plasterer, aged 26, when he appeared before Mr. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday, charged with assaulting F. L. McMurrich. Maunder, who pleaded not guilty, was represented by Mr. G. L. Kent. McMurrich in evidence said that last Saturday he went to the Exhibition in company with a friend. When he was leaving he brushed againsl someone. He said he was sorry and walked on. After going two or three paces be heard someone say: ‘‘You'd better , we P , sorry." He turned and went back and was struck a violent blow in the face. Mr. Kent said it was a case of provocation and self-defence. McMurrich had turned and approached Maunder in an aggressive manner and Maunder had struck him in self-defence.
