BATTLE IN DUBLIN STREET
Attempt To Seize Mails DUBLIN, May 7. A desperate battle between detectives and six men who are believed to have been members of the Irish Repnblictm Army and who were armed with sub-machine guns, occurred in the centre of Dublin when an attempt was made to seize mails which were being conveyed to the office of the British Representative, Sir John Malley. Detectives on motor-cycles were accompanying the mails. The gang opened tire near Mcrrion ■Square irnd the detectives flung themselves to the ground and replied with their revolvers. The rattle of machine-gun fire sent bystanders'flying for cover. Two detectives were seriously wounded, one having his revolver shot from his hand. One bandit was left lying on the roadway when the rest of the gang escaped in an automobile. GOVERNMENT REWARD FOR ARREST OF GUNMEN (Received May 8. 10.15 p.m.) ' DUBLIN. May 8. The Government has offered £5OOO for information leading to tho arrest of the gunmen who attempted to seize the mails.
