MONDAY’S WRESTLING
High-class wrestling will be seen in the Town Hall, Wellington, on Monday night, when Earl McCready, British Empire professional heavyweight champion, back in New Zealand for the fourth time, will meet Joe Corbett, the "Boston Adonis.’’ There has never been any question about the quality of the displays given by McCready. and Corbett is the right stamp of opponent to extend the Canadian to the utmost. As both are talelr than 6ft. and weigh about. 17st., there will be plenty of weight and strength behind thexchanges.
Like McCready, Corbett was outstanding as an amateur before he turned professional, and he is regarded as one of the most scientific of the wrestlers . who have come into prominence in Ameriea in recent years. A specialist, in cradle holds, he i« extremely versatile, and he will not hesitate to attack McCready over the whole distance.' Corbett’s opening display against Raines showed him up in a highly favourable light, and bis recall to the Wellington ring will be welcomed by till followers of the sport.
McCready has been in active competition in the' Seattle area during the New Zealand off season, and he there maintained an unbeaten record in spite of the strong opposition he was called upon to face. Completely recovered from the arm injury he received in New Zealand Inst year,'he showed the Americans wrestling of n standard that they rarely have the chance to see. The preliminaries, which will include a “semi-professional” bout. will begin at 8 o’clock.
