MATERIAL IN STALLS AT EXHIBITION
« Use In Reconstruction Of Buildings GIFT TO GOVERNMENT SUGGESTED Donations of material included, in stalls at the Centennial Exhibition will be gladly accepted by the Government for use in the internal reconstruction of the buildings to make them suitable for defence purposes. Stallholders making such donations will be relieved of their liability to demolish their stalls. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr. Sullivan, said last evening that exhibitors were under obligation to remove their stalls in accordance with their agreements with the Exhibition Company. “As has already been announced," said the Minister, “the Government is taking over the buildings for defence purposes, and a good deal of internal reconstruction will be necessary to fit the buildings for this new purpose. It has been suggested to me that many exhibitors would Im glad of the opportunity of donating the material included in their stalls for use in this reconstruction The Government would be glad to accept any such donations from exhibitors and relieve them of their liability to demolish the stalls. “I would like to emphasize that haphazard demolition by individual exhibitors must inevitably largely destroy the usefulness of a great deal of material that can be salvaged if the stalls are taken down systematically, as the material is wanted In the course of reconstruction of the buildings for use by the Defence Forces. Any exhibitors who wish to donate their stalls accordingly should advise me to that effect.”
