“I don’t, think wo have ever had such an experience before," said the president of the Christchurch branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Mr. A. E Haynes, commenting at an executive meeting on the rate at which membership subscriptions were being paid. “Subscriptions are coming in wonderfully well,” he said. “Up to April 30 we ‘had received .1232 subscriptions, compared with 1080 in Dunedin. At April 30, 1939, we had 905, so we were up 327. At present to May 0,1-13-1 have been paid, including 560 in two weeks.”
