Combined Mothers' Union
Meeting
A social evening at which fathers were the guests of honour was held by the Combined Mothers’ Unions of Wellington in the St. Mark’s Church Sunday school hall last night. Mr. F. W. Gilligan, headmaster of the Wanganui Collegiate School for boys, was the speaker. This was the first occasion on which the Wellington unions have held ar combined evening of this nature, and the experiment was a splendid success, there being an attendance of more than 400. The president. Mrs. H. St. Barbe Holland, was hostess, assisted by the vice-president, Me.sdames Wallis, Bullock and Hansell. The hall was beautifully decorated with autumn iiowers by the members of the Karori branch of the union, and the stage was most effectively massed with blooms. Musical items were contributed by ‘‘The Harmony Four,” from Lower Hutt, and by Mr. Stanley Ridley and Miss Jean Lorraine. Supper, provided by the St. Mark’s Union, and a congenial conversation —hour followed the music and Mr. Gilligan’s talk.
