“SWITZERLAND”
Returning To Wellington
J. C. Williamson’s spectacular ice show and ice ballet, “Switzerland,” will begin a return Wellington season in the New Opera House on Saturday afternoon. Though the approaching will be brief, the floor of the stalls will again be raised so that patrons in this part of the theatre will be able to have a clear view of the surface of the ice and the skaters. The secret of the success of “Switzerland” —it has had long runs throughout New Zealand, and would.be continuing much longer in Auckland in a return season there had it not been for another travelling company having booked the theatre—is that it is an entertainment that can be enjoyed over and over again, and it is a fact that some Wellington people attended no fewer than five to six times during the January-February season. “Switzerland” is a show so full of surprises—beautiful pictures and exhibitions of lovely grace—that many times during performances audiences are moved to spontaneous applause. It would be difficult to imagine a more brilliant skater on ice than Megan Taylor, nor a more daring or skilful trick skater than her father, Phil Taylor. Eddie Marcel, the compere of the entire show, is a deeply appreciated comedian, his act with the pantomime horse surely being memorable. Connie Graham and Hal Scott, and Tommy Russell and Ernie Marconi, who appear in the cabaret scene, will presentfresh items. The cabaret scene is arranged to allow the skaters a rest. The chief refrigerating engineer. Mr. C. Pugh, the chief electrician. Mr. R. Stewart, and other technicians have already arrived at Wellington, and the rink'will be ready for the artists to test on Friday.
