Referees’ Discussions

There wins a large attendance at Monclay night’s meeting of t'he 'Wellington Rugby Referees’ Association, Several points of interest in last Saturday’s matches were discussed. As the Griffiths Memorial competition will commence next Saturday, referees received instructions about the marking of papers. This competition has created a great deal of interest. Last season showed a big improvement on the previous one, no doubt due to the fact that clubs received progress reports. It is hoped that the interest will not only be maintained by the respective teams, but will be further improved. Matters eomeeirning the handling of injured players were dealt with. It was stated that the referee must not allow players to handle the injured unless he Is satisfied they arc capable of doing so. The ambulance brigade is present at most games, and its attention should be called immediately. A practical demonstration in the handling of injured players will be given to referees soon.
