MR. BARNARD CALLED ON TO RESIGN

Napier Railway Servants’ Resolution Dominion Special Service. NAPIER, May 7. A demand that. the M.P. for Napier, Air. Barnard, resign his seat is made in a resolution carried by the Napier branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. The resolution read:— “This meeting, being fully representative of the Napier branch of . the A.S.R.S., very strongly and emphatically condemns Air. Barnard in his action iu resigning from the Labour Party, specially so soon after the death of our beloved leader, Mr. Savage, and also when the country is in a state of war. AVe also wish to express our complete and continued confidence in the Government with Mr. Fraser at its helm. “AVe further demand that Air. Barnard resign the Napier seat, and this branch will wholeheartedly support the official Labour candidate chosen by the national executive of the New Zealand Labour Party. AVe also wish Mr. Barnard to know that in our firm belief he has let ns down very badly after we, as an organization, fought so strongly to return him, and advise Air. Barnard that, strong as our support; was iu Hie last general election, our opposition to him xvill be very much stronger in future. Labour Party Resolution. The AVaimarama branch of the Labour Party carried the following resolution :— “That this branch of the Labour Party endorses the conference report and has confidence in the Government. AVe ebndemu the actions of Air. Lee and Air. Barnard, and call on them to resign their seats as members of the Labour Government.”
