The cactus display in the Townend House in the Botanic Gardens. Christchurch. is now in its nineteenth week, and has been well attended by the public. Constructed to represent the Arizona Grand Canyon,, the display, which embodies 350 different cactus varieties, is given reality by a painted screen round the walls and a huge amount of red volcanic rock. Tlie exhibits are of a bewildering array of shapes and sizes, and are well arranged and classified, with a showcard pointing out the characteristics of each. Among the interesting items are tlie litliops. or living stones, which are camouflaged by nature to resemble exactly the .surroundings among which they grow.'
