HONOURED BY QUEEN OF NETHERLANDS
Colonel Weston And Mr. A. J. Fernie Colonel C. H. Weston, K.C., D. 5.0., has resigned the position of honorary consul for the Netherlands in New Zealand, and, in recognition of hit services in that capacity, the Order of the Knighthood of Orange Nassau has been conferred upon him by Her Majesty the Queen of the Netherlands. For valuable service rendered, the Gold Medal of the Order of Orange Nassau has been bestowed by Her Majesty upon Mr. A. J. Fernie, who, for more than 25 years acted as secretary of the Netherlands Consulate in Wellington, first during the office of the late Sir Charles Johnston and later while the post was held by Mr. W. G. Johnston, Mr. H. F. (now Mr. Justice) Johnston and Colonel Weston. Mr. Fernie, who relinquished his duties upon the reorganization of the consulate following the recent, appointment of a vice-consul “de carriere,” Mr. M. F. Vigeveno, occupied the position of acting-honorary consul for the Netherlands on many occasions, and often for extended periods as, for instance, during the greater part of the Great War.
