LONG SERVICE ENDS
Government Official’s Retirement Having completed 20 years' service, Mr. F. Coyle, officer in charge, Government Buildings, Wellington, and inspector of general messenger services for the Dominion, has retired .on superannuation. With tire exception of about two years in the Education Department, Mr. Coyle has been attached to the I>epartment of Internal Affairs. lie lirst served on the staff of the late Sir Joseph Ward, and was later attached to the office of Sir Janies Allen. In 1914, Mr. Coyle was appointed to the position of storekeeper, Education Department, but returned to the Department of Internal Afl'dirs as head messenger in 1916. In 1918, when the late Mr. Triggs was Public Trustee, Mr. Coyle became custodian of Ute Public Trust Office, Wellington, and, in June. 1919, was transferred to Christclmrch as custodian, Government Buildings, and deputy inspector of general messenger services. He bad occupied the position from which he Ims now retired since September, 1921.
Mr. Coyle was the recipient of a King George V Jubilee Medal, and accompanied bis Ministerial chief in the entourage of King George V when his late Majesty, then the Duke of Corn-
wall and York, visited New Zealand hi 1901.
Before leaving the service to begin bits final leave, Mr. Coyle was the guest at. a number of farewell gatherings arranged by various sections of the staff. Women officers of the general division presented him with a travelling rug, and the staff of the head office gave him a cigarette case. At another gathering, tendered by male officers of tlie general division, Mr. Coyle received a pair of binoculars. ’The Under-Secretary, Mr. J. W. Heenan, presided on each occasion, ami said Mr. Coyle had given long and efficient service. Mr. Heenan added that he believed this service was tiie longest of any ollicer in the department.
