Trentham Band
Sir, —The appearance of troops lei by their band on the occasion of a recent march through the city was a most inspiring spectacle, and also no doubt was one of the finest mediums for recruiting that it was possible to have. The Trentham Military Camp Band is a very fine band, and it occurs to me, sir, that its services could be utilized for recruiting purposes to a much larger extent than they are at present, and I respectfully suggest to the military authorities that a parade of picked men from the camp,Jed by their own band, be held in Wellington regularly for this purpose. I cau only recollect two occasions since the late Prime Minister’s funeral that this band has appeared in the city; the standard of their playing has on all occasions been very favourably commented upon, and I feel sure that the role of the chief recruiting depot would show 100 per cent, increase if R had the band to liven things up two or three afternoons a week. —I am, etc., EX IMPERIAL. Wellington, May 4.
