AT ALEXANDRIA
Arrival Of Allied Fleet I ■ LONDON, May 3. It is evident from reports received today that tho Mediterranean now rivals Norway as a centre of interest. This lias been heightened by the further news of Allied and Italian precautions.
lii regard to the arrival of part of tlie Allied Fleet at Alexandria, the rest of the Fleet, mainly cruisers and small craft, is expected by Sunday. A correspondent who watched the arrival of the Allied Fleet at Alexandria said that the ships entered the harbour without the usual gun salutes. Brass rails were painted over, and they bore marks of service at sea. ‘'They had their coats off,” as he put it. The Greek Minister at Washington saw the Assistant .Secretary of State, Mr. Sumner Welles, and it is believed that they discussed the Italian reinforcements at the Dodecanese Islands and the Mediterranean situation in general.
