BRITISH CENSORSHIP
War Correspondents Protest LONDON, May 3. The Association of Oversea Empire Correspondents has sent a letter to Mr. Chamberlain and other Ministers and High Commissioners strongly protesting against the censorship activities of the service department. “The association expresses deep resentment,” the letter states, “at tho order that all comment and speculation on military operations in Norway, and even political criticism of the Government relating to the general handling of the Norwegian campaign, should not pass the cable offices without reference to the Ministry of Information.”
All the English and American war correspondents at R.A.F. headquarters in France walked out and came to London to protest against a proposed new method for the release of news from the R.A.F. on the Western Front, under which Officials of the Air Ministry would compile all bulletins and which would forbid correspondents to visit aerodromes, interview pilots, or send eye-witness dispatches. The Correspondents complained that the system would destroy the effectiveness and objectivity of their coverage in the war.
