SEEKING OUT MAN
The Bible was the book which outlined for them the great fact that God was seeking man; every other religion showed man seeking God and finding Him only in part, said the Rev. C. G. Wilcox at the Eastbourne Presbyterian Church when he referred to the influence of the Bible on British life. The Bible led its readers to a higher life and opened to them the vision of a God Who was wholly good,'Whose name was love. It set a standard for the believer and challenged him to reach out toward the idea of practical righteousness. Therein its stood alone, for too often, religion, apart from the offshoots of Christianity, had very little to do with morality.
The Bible was the great literary heritage of the British Empire and had done more to build the national character than any other single influence.
