Evening Spent At National Art Gallery
More than 500 people were the guests of the chairman, Mr. D. A. Ewen, .and members of the management committee of the National- Art Gallery, at' a reception in the- National Art Gallery, Wellington, -last night, when the Centennial Exhibition of International and New Zealand Art was viewed in the most congenial surroundings. Tlio.se on the platform for the brief welcoming ceremony by the president were Mrs. D. A. Ewen, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Hogg, Mrs. Murray Fuller, Dr. P. Marshall and Mr. Eric Gore. Mrs. Ewen wore a handsome gown in deep chrome red, brocaded with gold, and <t matching velvet wrap heavily trimmed with gold-brown feathers.. Mrs. Hogg wore a formal black satin gown, and Mrs. Fuller was in black crepe with a white ermine cape. The gathering broke up into social groups to spend a pleasant hour touring the galleries, finally meeting together in the supper-room for coffee and (savouries served buffet fashion. The long tables in the room, which is blue and white, were gay with golden chrysanthemums. Afterward, the results of the art union drawing were announced in the main gallery.
