DENMARK IN CHAINS

Life Under Germans Described INNUMERABLE ORDERS LONDON, May 2. Life in Denmark under the German occupation is described by a Copenhagen newspaper correspondent in an article which has been subject to German censorship. Innumerable rules, orders and prohibitions were issued at once by the German authorities, he says. On the first day of the occupation prices were controlled and this was followed by the rationing of almost all important foodstuffs. Thousands of Danes in the motor business alone have been thrown out of work because of the petroi rationing. The Danish people are having to adapt themselves to an entirely new way of living. Public meetings are forbidden, and there is a ban also on such functions as university graduation ceremonies.

The sale of alcoholic drinks is prohibited, and the Danes are allowed to drink only light beer. Presumably this is because of the fear of demonstrations. This restriction is causing very strong resentment.
