OBITUARY

Mrs. D. Ogilvy

The death occurred on Wednesday, at the residence of Mrs. M. R. Johnstone, Upper Plain, Masterton, of Mrs. D. Ogilvy, widow of the late Mr. David Ogilvy, Masterton, at the age of 59, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. Mr. Ogilvy, who predeceased her about 11 years ago, was a well-known Masterton business man, and after het Husband’s death Mrs. Ogilvy lived in Wellington. She is survived by two sons, Messrs. David Ogilvy, a meluber of the Royal Navy, and Graham Ogilvy, who is employed by the lie Havilland Aeroplane Company, England. Mr, G. S. Luttrell The death occurred suddenly on Wednesday evening of Mr. George S. Luttrell, licensee of the Carlton Club Hotel, Hastings,’ and a well-known sportsman, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. Born in Tasmania in 1886, Mr. Luttrell came to New Zealand about 30 years ago and soon after settled in Hastings, where he set up business in the building trade, being the principal of the partnership of Duncan and Luttrell. After retiring from this concern lie went to Sydney, where he remained for about, two years before returning to Hastings 12 years ago. He eventually took over control of the Carlton Club Hotel. Though he was keenly interested in most forms of sport, the turf held the greatest appeal for him, and he was the successful owner of several wellknown racehorses. In partnership with Mr C. H. Slater he successfully raced Tvgrlna, and, later, in partnership with Mr. W. J. Cameron, he raced Chant Royal. In recent years he raced Hastings West and Golden Melody and the steeplechaser Iddo among other horses. Air. Luttrell was the vice-presi-dent of the Hastings Citizens’ Baud. He leaves a widow and two sons, Messrs. Alton and Max Luttrell, both of Hastings. Mr. H. B. Cooper The death occurred recently of Mr. Harvey Benjamin Cooper, of Mako Mako Road. Levin. Mr. Cooper, who was in his Slst year, was born in Stockton, Surrey, and arrived at Lyttelton with his parents in 1564 in the ship Canterbury. He spent his early life in Lvttelton and eventually came to the North Island, taking up land at Fahiatua in the early ’eighties with his brother, tlie late Mr. Ross Cooper. On leaving Fahiatua lie followed farming pursuits at Muhunoa East, Ohau, for some time, subsequently joining tlie staff of the Horowhenua County Conncil . Mr. Cooper lived in Levin for about 30 years and is survived by his widow, six sons—Messrs. W. R. and T. 1' • Cooper (Wellington), J. I*. Cooper (Lower Hutt), G. and J. H. cooper (Levin) and H. B. Cooper (Auckland) —and two daughters—Mrs. 11. Arnold (Lower Hutt) and Miss A. Cooper (Levin). Mrs. D. Moore. Christchurch, is his only surviving sister, Mrs. B. Kemp, Waipukurau, having predeceased him. Mr. C. Sutherland Among the seamen drowned when Hie Leith steamer Giralda was sunk by German bombing planes off the Orkney Islands in February was Charles Sutherland, aged 19, a brother of two seamen well known on the New Zealand coast, Messrs. W. and J. Sutherland. He was the youngest son of the late Air. .1. T. Sutherland, Sildieries, who died suddenly about a year ago while on coast-watch duty at Bressay. The late Charles Sutherland went, to sea when only 15 years of age. Mr. W. Sutherin ml is a member of the crew of the Iniiha and Mr. J. Sutherland is in the employ of the Wellington Harbour Board. Mrs. J. Mcßae The death occurred iu Napier on Wednesday og Mrs. Janet Mcßae, aged ST, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. Born in Unst, in the Shetland Islands, Mrs. Mcßae came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Clarence. landing at Napier in 1880. Mrs. Mcßae was married in Napier to the late Mr. Duncan Mcßae, who predeceased her four years ago. With her husband Mrs. Mcßae had lived in Napier since her arrival. Mrs. Mcßae leaves four daughters— Mesdaines G. H. Brown (Napier), H. Minett (Taupo). F. Johnson (Wellington) aud F. Outline (Hastings)—and four sons, Messrs. D. B. Mcßae (Napier), A. Aleßae (Dunedin), H. Mcßae and W. Mcßae.
