Saying that lie appreciated the point that'many farmers could take a holiday only during the winter months, and that he would like to be able to do something for them, the Minister of Transport, Mr. Semple, advised the Farmers’ Union that he was unable to make additional supplies of petrol available for farmers holidays. The reply emphasized the necessity of conserving petrol as a war measure. The remit asking for the concession was sponsored by the Manawatu provincial executive of the union.
