PATRIOTIC FUND CARD AFTERNOON
The prize-winners at a card afternoon held, at the Hutt Croquet Club pavilion in aid of the patriotic fund were: Bridge, Mrs. J. B. Wood 1, Mrs. Hamilton 2; “500,” Mrs. Parker 1, Mrs. T. Warburton 2. The players were Mesdatnes 11. E. Edwards, J. August, T. Warburton, Barker, Murphy, J. IV. Jones,' Tynan, Fergusson, H. Du Faur, Sanders, W. Andrews, Haydon, H. Kelly, C. Whitcher, W. Hendry, M. Upton, S. Ashton, Stevenson, J. Fletcher, A. 11. M. Wright, A. J. Nicholls, F. Vaughan. G. Savage, G. McNamara, W. Nash. M. Johnson, E. F. Hollands, Armstrong, Drover, J. Stonehouse, E. Kirk, M. Webley, H. E. Leighton, McKenzie and V. Parkin. The hostesses were Mesdatnes R. V. King, V. Piper and H. Brooks. A basket given by Mrs. H. Brooks was won by Mrs. M. Upton.
VVaiwetu To wits women. The April meeting of the Wniwetu Townswomen’s Guild was held in St. Paul’s Church Hall, recently. Mrs F. Rushton being in the chair. Tlje patriotic subcommittee announced a games ■afternoon to be held in St. Paul's Hall, on May 8, proceeds from which will be used to provide comforts for soldiers. Mrs. Taylor gave two solos, the accompanist being Mrs. Williamson, and "two humorous elocutionary Items were given by Mrs. P. Dowse. A one-egg cake is to be the competition for May, and a compel if ion for the “best bloom in mv garden” is to be held each month. A roll call. “My Birthplace,” proved very entertaining.
