Though the practice, common in the last war, of sending white feathers to men who had not enlisted for military service, seems to have fallen largely into abeyance during the present hostilities, isolated cases still occur. On Saturday afternoon a Christchurch man, who had left his car in Hereford Street, found a white feather affixed to one of the seats when he returned. This man had more than five years of active service in the Great War, won his commission in the field, and has had a total of 27 years’ military service. He is well above the present agelimit for enlistment.
