PATRIOTIC FUND
Substantial Donations The National Patriotic Fund total has reached £lOO,OOO as the result of donations received since last week. At the annual meeting of shareholders of R. Hannah and Co., Ltd., it was decided to donate £lOOO to the fund for distribution as follows: —£250 for Y.M.C.A. work overseas, £250 to the Salvation Army for services to soldiers, and £250 each to the Red, Cross and Order of St. John of Jerusalem tor the provision of comforts for sick and wounded men. The board received the cheque yesterday. Another substantial cheque received yesterday was for £4OO from T. J. Edmonds, Ltd., Christchurch. In addition to this donation to the national fund, the firm has given £lOO each toward the Christchurch appeals for the Y.M.C.A., the Salvation Army and the Red Cross Society. A further contribution has been received from the principal of the girls’ secondary school, who anonymously since January hans been making a monthly donation to the national fund from her monthly cheque on the basis of 1/- a day. She has made now five such contributions, her latest, of £l/10/-, being for April.
