Still A Cabinet Vacancy APPOINTMENT OF MORE MINISTERS Consideration To Be Given By Party Caucus The allocation of Ministerial offices and departments is conditioned by the fact that, as previously announced by the Prime Alinistcr, consideration of the appointment oi one or two new -Ministers will be given at the next party caucus meeting and a limited reallocation will thus again be necessary. The death of the late Prime Alinistcr, the Rt. l ion. Al. J. Savage, left a vacancy in the Cabinet, and the question of an additional Alinistcr will also be considered.
Tiie portfolio of External Affairs lias been, allocated to Mr. Langstone, who for some months past lias been carrying out tiie detail work associated witli it. Tiie Ministry of External Affairs, as at present constituted, deals only witli the administration of the Mandated Territory of Western Samoa All questions concerning foreign or in teruational affairs and relations .with tiie British Commonwealth of Nations will continue as at present to be dealt with by the Prime Minister. For some time past the Government lias had under its consideration the problem of post-war restoration, particularly the rehabilitation of returned soldiers, on which a comprehensive inquiry and report, lias already been made. A sub-committee of Cabinet Ims been set up, and when the necessary regulations are framed a Minister will be deputed to direct and administer a permanent organization. Full Time for Defence. It will be noted that owing to the readjustment Mr. Jones will now lie able to devote bis entire attention to Defence and War Pensions. Mr. Parry now becomes Minister of Social Security, but. as lie Ims been Acting-Minister since more than a year ago. this involves no great change. Mr.’ Wilson, in addition to being Leader of tiie Legislative Council, is now Minister of Immigration, Minister of Manpower, and Minister in Charge of tiie Government Life Insurance and State Fire Insurance Departments Tiie Prime Minister, following the example of Mr. Savage, assumes personal control of broadcasting. Mr. Mason is to take over Education. Mr. Armstrong becomes Minister of Health, and Mr. Semple is to be Minister of Marine. These three portfolios were formerly held by Mr. Fraser. Mr. Webb takes over the portfolios of Postmaster-General and Minister of Telegraphs, formerly administered by Mr. Jones. Mr. Nash retains the portfolio 'O. Finance and allied positions as well as Marketing. . , There is no change in Mr. Sullivans responsibilities.' or in those of Mr. Lee Martin.
