MOTHERS' UNION WELCOMES DELEGATES
The ’Wellington Union of Kindergarten Mothers extended a welcome to the delegates last night when it presented an entertainment and social evening in the Berhampore Free Kindergarten. Airs. Hutchinson, president of the Wellington Mothers’ Union, welcomed the delegates, and the principals from the tour centres, Aliases O. Colegrove 4 (Auckland), A. Duthie (Dunedin), R. Wilkie (Christchurch) and E. Wilson (Wellington). She presented the'four principals with bouquets, made by oiie of the mothers, and they replied with brief speeches of appreciation. Airs. J. A. Doctor and members of the ■Wellington council were present, and also representatives from all the mothers’ clubs.
The programme was a combined creative effort, on the part of the mothers, designed to show the full scope for self-expression which the clubs offer. The Berhampore and Petone mothers gave two plays, “These Hard Times” and “Choosing a Cook,” presented in authentic settings in costume, which were a great success; Wellington South contributed songs by a sextette of members wearing identical frocks: Ngaio gave colourful folk dances, aud Miramar shadow plays of nursery rhymes.
An amusing competition arranged bj Newtown mothers took the form of a round of singing, and added to the very happy atmosphere which pervaded the gathering. Supper and a social hour concluded a most enjoyable evening.
