WINTER FLYING

Cook Strait And West Coast Services Because of the shorter days and fewer flying hours being available. Cook Strait Airways are now operating on tbeir winter timetable between Wellington mid Blenheim. 'J be last machine from Wellington to Blenheim each day is now departing at 2.39 p.m.. instead of 4 p.m., as formerly, and the last machine from Blenheim is scheduled to reach Wellington at 3.30 p.m., instead of 5 p.m. ' , The new timetable was introduced last Monday, following the change from summer time to standard time, but other services operated by Cook Strait Airways between Wellington. Blenheim, anil Nelson, have uot been altered. There are fewer services across Cook Strait this winter than there were last, because of the war. but in spite of fewer machines and pilots being available traffic figures are maintaining a high level. From today onward airline passengers from Wellington for the West Coast of the South Island will leave by an earlier machine than formerly. In the past the airliner leaving Wellington at H. 45 a.m. has connected at Nelson witli the service to Westport. Greymouth and Hokitika operated by Air Travel (N.Z.), Ltd., but the machine making this trip now leaves Nelson at 5.35 a.m. instead of 1.->5 p.m. West Coast passengers must now leave Wellington at 7.35'a.m. Less daylight and fewer tourists during tiie winter months also affect the West Coast services, and from next Monday tiie machine from Nelson will go as far as Westport only, where service car connexions will be available.
