Ex-Ministers Petition King Carol RUMANIA TO FIGHT FOR INTEGRITY By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received March 28. 9.30 p.m.) BUCHAREST. March 28. Thirty-three ex-Ministers. including the former Premiers. M. Maniu and M. Micescu, sent a memorandum to King Carol today demanding the end of the one-party system in the interests of national unity. The signatories declare that King Carol recently assumed too much responsibility and authority, and demand the establishment of a “Government of national unity and national faith.” having direct contact with the people.

In a speech yesterday the Prime Minister, M. Calinescu, stated: “We will fight with all our might, for the integrity of our country. Rumania took military precautions on March 15 because Hungary was concentrating troops on the frontier and was aggressive by means of wireless toward Rumania. “Not desiring foreign territory, Rumania refused Father Volosin's offer of annexation.” He added that the agreement between Germany and Rumania was exclusively economic. If. Calinescu declared that: if Germany had raised the question of Rumania’s independence he would immediately have broken off the tradepact negotiations. The Foreign Minister. Dr. Gafencu. said that Rumania had not intervened in Ruthenia because of her friendship to Poland and her understanding of Hungarian desires. YUGOSLAV UNREST Anti-Nazi Demonstrations ZAGREB, March 27. Despite warnings from the Croatian autonomist leaders, who have been seeking German support for a home rule campaign, anti-German demonstrations in which the formerly pro-Ger-man Croatian Peasant Guards are joining are increasing. Yugoslav unionists and Government sokols (gymnastic bodies), who formerly were closely allied with the Czech sokols, are also increasingly anti-Ger-. man.
