The nature of the strata in Taranaki lias caused the New Zealand Petroleuni Company's seismic survey party unexpected difficulties, and the time for the start of a systematic survey is indefinite. The general clogginess of the earln and volcanic rock present conditions unlike anything yet encountered, and the scene of operations lias been transferred from Leppertou to near Stratford.
