SCHEME 13 MEN
Monthly Payment Instead Of Weekly
The anticipated difficulties of men who have been employed under the No. 13 scheme, between the cessation of that employment at the end of March and the payment of the first benefits under the Social Security Act on April 23, which are to be the subject of representations to the Minister of Social Security, Mr. Nash, by the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association, have attracted the attention of other branches of the association. On Monday night the executive of the Wellington R.S.A. discussed the subject, as well as the disadvantage of paying monthly men who have been used to receiving their income weekly. It has been pointed out that the families and men of the type concerned are likely to find themselves short of cash toward the end of every month, and that a system of monthly payment could be easily devised. Action is to be taken by the Wellington organization if it is considered necessary.
