DOCTORS AND SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEME
No Arrangement Made With Government STATEMENT BY DR. NEWLANDS By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 28. “No arrangement has been made with the Government, which is fully aware that the members of the medical profession are practically all opposed to the scheme as its stands,” said Dr. Newlands in commenting on the official announcement that the Government’s discussion with the doctors bad now reached the stage of dealing with details, indicating a considerable modification of their previous opposition.
Ur. Newlands emphasized that no working arrangements bad been evolved yet. and only last week the B.M.A. national health committee had been instructed to sign nothing without the executive's consent.

Conference In Wellington
The procedure in connexion with the health side of the social security scheme was discussed at a conference in Wellington yesterday of medical officers of health from all parts of New Zealand and the principal executive officers of the Department of Health. The opportunity was taken to explain those phases of the scheme which would come into operation within the next month or so. The Minister of Health, Mr. Fraser, visited the conference in the afternoon and gave a brief address. He said he hoped that conferences of medical officers of health would be a feature of health administration of the future, because the pooling of experiences and the exchange of ideas was a most valuable asset.
