Willis Street Incident One of the humorous aspects of the fire was what a large section of the crowd in Willis Street thought was the rescue of an injured woman. Those with business premises in Willis Street which were threatened lost no time in removing their stock to safer places. M’hen tlie fire was at. its height about 9 o’clock a young man carrying in his arms a well-dressed woman staggered across the street from Madame Dawne's frock simp, shouting ’’Make way for a lady. Slierfainted." A path was quickly cleared as the prone figure was carried into Hie Carlton Hotel. 11 was a dressmaker's model.
