CHILD DROWNED IN LAKE

By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 26. A six-year-old boy, Waharoa Cooksou, a son of Mr. Albert Cookson, a Public Works Department employee, was drowned in a lake in Rotorua this afternoon. He slipped into a deep part of h small lake near the Maori church in Ohinemutu while searching for frogs. The child was in the company of a girl of 11 years, whose attention was called to the tragedy by the cries of another small boy. The girl immediately went for the assistance of Mr. William Wharealtu. the well-known New Zealand champion swimmer. Mr. Whareaitu dived iuto the lake and brought the child’s body to the surface from a depth of about 20 feet.
