Queen's Niece Married (‘•Dominion” Special Service: By Airmail.) LONDON, March 'J. The King and Queen were present yesterday at tlie marriage, at Holy Trinity, Brompton, of Mr. Kenneth 1-larington and Her Majesty’s niece, the Hon. Cecilia Bowes-Lyon, elder daughter of Lord and Lady Glamis. of Sliovelstrode Manor, East Grinstead. Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret accompanied their parents, anil occupied a pew. with the Earl of Strathmore. father of the Queen, on the bride's side of the church. Iler Majesty wore a long, straight coat of pansy purple velvet over a simple crepe de chine dress of a slightly paler tone, and a velvet hat witli a wide brim turned off her face. A magnificent silver fox fur was arranged as a collar.
The bride was given away by her father. Her wedding gown was of soft white satin, made with a high, draped neckline, the fullness arranged on classical lines. Over the long train fell her veil of white tulle, and on her dark hair was arranged a halo headdress of miniaturt* arum lilies made of white feathers. Site carried arum lilies. The bride’s page was Simon BowesLyon, her cousin. He wore trousers of dark red velvet and a frilled shirt of ivory georgette. Two maid's of honour, Mary and Patricia Bowes-Lyon, also cousins of the bride, walked immediately behind him up the aisle, their bouffant frocks of crisp white tulle having red valvet ribbons at the waist. The short puffed sleeves were piped with red, to match, and they had anemone headdresses made of red feathers, and carried posy bouquets of natural red anemones.
The bridesmaids were the Hon. Nancy Bowes-Lyon, sister of the bride'; Miss Diana Bowes-Lyon, cousin of the bride: Miss Lu<i$ t Harington and Miss Avril Vernon, cousins of the bridegroom: Miss Cynthia Crozier and Miss Claudia Crichton-Stuart. Their dresses of white crepe were made in similar fashion to that of tlie bride, with short trains, and they had feather headdresses to resemble red anemones. They carried bouquets of red anemones and white handbags, the gifts of tlie bridegroom. Tlie bride and bridegroom will spend tlieir honeymoon in France and Italy.
Institute Birthday. The Paekakariki institute held tlieir fourth birthday recently. This took the form of a social afternoon, the hall being beautifully decorated by members of the flower circle. There was a large attendance of members and. friends, and surrounding institutes were well represented. Items were provided by members of the drama and singing circles. Songs were given by Mrs. A. Tutt and Miss P. Jackson, accompanied by Mrs. Ames. An item by two little girls, J. Smith and V. Ingram, was enjoyed. A two-tier cake was a great source of admiration. Mrs. Chapman, president of the Waikato federation, was a special guest. Mrs. Hume was also present. Afternoon tea was served by Committee members and competitions were held.
