Farewell Parties For Mr. And Mrs. C. J. Ashton
.Mr. and .Mrs. C. J. Ashton, Mills Road, Lower Hutt, who will leave Fort Chalmers today by the Port Denison for England, have been entertained, recently at several bon voyage parties. They will go via Cape Horn, and. expect to be away nine months, visiting England and the Continent. Mr. mid Airs. IT. Miller, Day s Bay, ,r ave a musical evening lor Mr. and Mrs. Ashton. Mr®. Miller wore a frock ot brown floral satin, and Mrs. Ashton a powiler-blue satin tunic and a black satin skirt. Vocal items were given by Messrs. II and J. Miller. . Miss Jean Wighton, wearing a troek of black silk, broderie Anglaise, was hostess at a dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Ashton in the Grand Hotel, Wellington. Mrs. Ashton wore powder-blue lace. The ,-iicsls were Mr. and Mrs. C. Eggie, Mr. mid Mrs S. Jackson, Air. and Mrs. H. Miller, mid Air. D. Heberton. Mr. and Mrs. A. Giddings, Karon, gave a bridge evening for Air. and Airs. Ashton Airs. Giddings received the guests in a frock of navy blue lloral marocain, Airs. Ashton wearing black and powderblue silk. .Mrs. Small. Hinal Street, Lower Hutt, also gave a bridge evening for Air. and Mrs Ashton. Airs. Small’s frock was of black satin, and Airs. Ashton wore maroon marocain with a toning posy at the nee.t. Miss Grace Small wore wine satin. Air. and Airs. P. G. Taylor, Knights Road. Lower Hutt, entertained a few friends in honour of Air. and Mrs. Ashton Airs. Taylor wore a frock of black and white silk, and Mrs. Ashton pastelshaded marocain.
Queen Carnival Card Evening. The Hutt Centennial Committee held a successful card evening in the Taita Hall encertlv in support of the women’s organization queen. Airs. J. Bradley. The committee comprised Alesdames J. A\ . Andrews, W. Nash. V Vinson Foster. Cooly and Draper, and Aliss Wilson. .1 he prize-winners were Airs. Cooly and Mr. Searle, consolation prize® going to Mr. and Airs. Flood.
Kindergarten /Afternoon. • • Airs. V. ATnsen, president of the Petone Free Kindergarten Committee, and Airs. J. 0. Burns and Mrs. Purata Olsen, committee members, organized a com afternoon. which was held at the Kindergarten to assist the funds. Airs. G. R. Milhvard sang, accompanied by Airs. L. Boyd. Mrs. Briton-Smith, a member of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Council, spoke interestingly on the Holy Land.
Kitchen Tea. Aliss T. O’Meara and Aliss N. 1 ulton -ave a kitchen tea at the Returned Soldiers’ Association rooms, Lower Hutt, ou Saturday night, for Miss Vida Jones, AVellington. who is shortly to be married to Air F Elicock, Brooklyn. AlissO’Meara wore u frock of turquoise-blue georgette over satin Miss Fulton rose-pink crepe de chine, and Aliss Jones navy-blue floral crepe do chine. Mr. G. Skinner was M.C. Queen Carnival Bridge Party. Airs H. Pratley, William Street, letone, gave a bridge party on. Saturday night hi aid of the women’s organizations’ queen in the centennial carnival, Airs. R. Bradley. Mr. and Airs. L. Donovan won the prizes for the-highest number, and Mr. G. Barry for the hidden number. Mrs. AL Carpenter received a consolation prize. The prizes were given by Mesdames C. Ramsden, Garner, G. Porter and AV. Miller.
