FREIGHT CONTRACTS

Refrigerated Cargo Rates COMING CONFERENCE A delegation representing the four principal shipping companies engaged in the trade between New Zealand and the United Kingdom, arrived at Wellington in the Dominion Monarch on Saturday, having come from London at the request of the New Zealand Government Io negotiate a new freight contract for refrigerated cargo. The members of the delegation are; Mr. John Macmillan, managing director of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Ltd. Mr. H. J. F. Mills, a director of the New Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd. Mr. 11. W. Corry, a director of the Port Line, Ltd. Mr. G. H. Trott, London manager of the Blue Star Line, Ltd. Mr. J. W. Rodden, assistant manager in London of the Dairy Sales Division of the Primary Products Marketing Department, also arrived in the Dominion Monarch to take part, in the discussions. While in Wellington he will confer with his department regarding the marketing of dairy produce in Great Britain.

When Interviewed ou Saturday members of the delegation said that negotiations would start as soon as possible, probably on Wednesday, and in the meantime n o statement could be made.

This will be the first time that the refrigerated cargo freights conference has been held in New Zealand. The Government now has a direct interest, in the discussions. The Minister of Marketing, Mr. Nash, will be the principal representatives of the Government and will have the assistance of rhe chief executive officers of the departments and boards concerned in the export trade.

It is not expected that the negotiations will be protracted. Mr. Macmillan and Mr. Trott are leaving New Zealand iu about a fortnight to conduct important business in Sydney. They will return to England iu the Dominion Monarch.
