URGENT IMPORT LICENCES

Thousand Auckland Issues

REQUIREMENTS FOR SEASONAL TRADE By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 24. One thousand urgent licences to import goods in the second half of the year have been issued by the Customs Department in Auckland, the increase being particularly marked in the past week. Every effort is being made by the department to dispose of such licences before the big rush of ordinary applications for the next six-monthly period has to be dealt with next month. Goods classified as urgent are included under 60 out of the 450 tariff headings and are generally for the purposes of seasonal trade or to meet the requirements of local manufacturers. Among seasonal goods affected are many lines required for spring and summer fashions next season and Christmas goods, which comprise glass and chinaware, fancy goods and drapery. The requirements of manufacturers include materials for hatters and tailors, cotton, silk and artificial silk piece goods, manufactured stationery and fireworks for Giiy Eawke’s Day on November 5. Certain drugs and chemicals are also listed as urgent. “Applications covering these and other seasonal and urgent goods will probably go out at a greater rate during the next few days to complete as much as possible of this portion of the work by the end of the month,” said Mr. F. N. Abercrombie, Collector of Customs.
