FEE CUTS FOR B.B.C. ARTISTS
"Drastic action” against the 8.8. C. is threatened by a number of radio artists who are in revolt against new rates of pay, says the “Sunday Chronicle.”
They met recently in secret when personal experiences were exchanged, and a singer revealed that, his ten guineas fee had been to four guineas. Complaint was general about rebroadcasts. It was alleged that the 8.8. C. are increasing them to the financial disadvantage of the artists performing. Before the new rates were operated artists were paid an extra percentage for repeat broadcasts. They now assert that payment is on a fixed basis which does not work out at all well for them. The -rebels arc supplying a statement to the Variety Artists’ Federation and the Concert Artists’ Association with a request for joint action. If this does not succeed there will be a “stay-out” strike.
