MONEY WITHOUT EFFORT

Visitor's Opinion On Employment Of Youth

Favourable comment on New Zealand was made by Miss Marie Randall, a member of the Guernsey Parliament, before her departure from Auckland by the Ayvatea on her return to the Channel Islands. Miss Randall has been in the Dominion for four months, during which time she has travelled from Spirits Bay to Milford Sound. Miss Randall was not willing to give her views of the New Zealand Government, though, being herself a member of Parliament, she admitted that she had watched its progress keenly during her sojourn here. “The only thing I will say is that your Government is bringing up boys to be servants and not masters,’ said Miss Randall. “The youths I have met working on the roads during my travels here ought to be doing more than that. They seem to be getting money without much effort, which is a bad thing for them. You are importing men into this country for specialized work, which should be done by the sons and grandsons of your own pioneers.” While travelling through the Dominion Miss Randall has stayed at many hotels, and when asked to comment on these she said that, though comfortable, she found them rather expensive. It was either a case of cutting visits short, staying at an inferior hotel to save money, or staying at a good hotel and spending too much money. “The ironing room, which is provided in most'Now Zealand hotels, appealed most to me, as it probably would to all women travellers,” added Miss Randall.

Mr. and Mrs. Baker, Whakatane, have arrived at Martinborough, where Mr. Baker will take over tlie managership of the Bank of New Zealand.
